David Nyirenda is a seasoned local government professional, governance expert, and community development leader with over 10 years of experience at the Lusaka City Council, including more than a decade serving as Director of Finance in various other Councils.
Throughout his public service career, David played a central role in financial management, budgeting, public accountability, and institutional strengthening within Zambia’s capital city and other Towns. His work gave him a deep, practical understanding of how cities function — and why many systems fail ordinary citizens when transparency, discipline, and citizen participation are weak.
The city of Lusaka needs David Nyirenda as its aspiring mayor because the capital requires leadership that is practical, accountable, and people-centred. As Zambia’s fastest-growing urban centre, Lusaka faces pressing challenges such as waste management, traffic congestion, unplanned settlements, drainage problems, youth unemployment, and inconsistent service delivery. A mayor must work closely with the Lusaka City Council to ensure efficient budgeting, improved sanitation systems, better infrastructure maintenance, and transparent governance.
At a time when residents are seeking renewed trust in local government, Lusaka needs a mayor who can prioritize practical solutions, listen to citizens’ concerns, and drive sustainable urban development that improves the daily lives of its people.
